The U.S. Institute of Peace  is dedicated to advancing peace and stability in Afghanistan, particularly in the aftermath of the Taliban’s takeover and the collapse of the Islamic Republic. With the country entering a complex new phase of conflict, USIP’s Afghanistan program focuses on fostering inclusive and sustainable peace by addressing critical issues such as governance, human rights, security challenges, and international engagement. Despite the Taliban’s efforts to consolidate control, which have led to increased marginalization and conflict, USIP is committed to supporting initiatives that promote inclusive political structures and protect basic human rights.

USIP’s work involves extensive research and engagement with Afghan and international stakeholders to address the unique challenges of Afghanistan’s post-conflict environment. By tackling core issues like governance, justice, and security, and drawing on lessons from other fragile states, USIP aims to facilitate positive political discourse and contribute to a more stable and peaceful future for Afghanistan.
